Under direction, this position is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the
department’s water and wastewater system consisting of fourteen (14) pumping stations, nine
(9) wells, four (4) storage tanks and eleven (11) pressure regulators. Performs other related
duties as required.
Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:
Shift Operators are responsible to oversee the MTUD SCADA system, well operations,
regulators, storage tanks, treatment operations, distribution system, sewer collection
system, sewer pump station and all related equipment.
Operators perform system rounds, special projects, various system O&M, emergency
response, customer complaint calls and response, emergency and regular mark-outs.
Performs other routine and on-call duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of wastewater pumping stations, sewer collection system, well
operations, chemical treatment, hydraulics, chemical pumps, plumbing, SCADA controls,
moors, regulator operation, distribution system O&M and basic math required.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for prolonged periods of time under varying
temperatures and climatic conditions.
Ability to follow safety precautions in the operation of assigned tools and equipment.
Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the
duties of this position.
Physical conditions adequate to perform required tasks, including ability to lift loads of
greater than 50 lbs.
Withstand to frequently work in adverse weather conditions.
LICENSE, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Applicants must possess a valid CDL Class B (CDL Class A with N Endorsement preferred).
Three (3) years of experience and two (2) NJDEP Licenses or one (1) level two NJDEP
Associate’s Degree especially in environmental science, biology, chemistry, engineering
Wastewater experience and NJDEP higher collection system licenses preferred.
Welding, electrical, mechanical and instrumentation skills preferred.
Candidates must reside in New Jersey unless otherwise exempted by law and are required to
pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and motor vehicle record check.

Pursuant to applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement as per Salary Ordinance.
Current Range: Step 1 $51,323 to Step 4 $62,347 (salary is DOQ)
