In this 4-hour training session the importance of disinfection in both water and wastewater systems will be discussed. This class will provide information on the safe use, operation and maintenance of chlorine gas and sodium hypochlorite disinfection systems. Information will be presented that is general in nature potable water systems and to wastewater systems prior to discharging to effluent, along with specific regulations for each type of system including those systems that are currently not required to chlorinate. The importance of de-chlorination for both water and wastewater systems will be discussed, as will the newer EPA Regulations for dichlorination and how some states have adopted National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) reporting permits for tracking of dichlorination of both potable water and wastewater systems. The importance of alternative disinfection methods that are used in both water and wastewater systems such as ozone, UV light and chloramines will also be discussed.
